Are you circumcised? What about Wayne?

No, I am not. Neither Wayne, thank God… shouldn’t you be asking these things to him, mmh?

He frowned slightly. What did he mean? Was Togusa that kind of man? Bernard wasn’t so sure about sharing his secret knowledge with him now. Mostly because if he was in trouble, Wayne, Grace, Jess and Steve would go next.

And he wasn’t going to risk his family’s lives for this. Still, he needed to know why that answer. What was Togusa hiding from him? He could read it on his eyes.

“…Why not?” he asked, arching an eyebrow. “Why can’t you keep that information safe?”

Judging by the other’s reaction, Togusa’s had been a quite unexpected reaction. But, after all, it was important information they were talking about…something that could not be taken easily. Why would someone risk so much, put his family in danger, just to help a stranger whose intentions were mostly undefined, even for that man himself?

Unless that was part of a bigger plan, and that information was just a tool for the one pulling the strings of that whole situation. The man could not really tell, but there was not such thing as being cautious enough.

“I am new to this whole place” He replies, crossing his arms in front of his chest “If one of those villains ever got me, thanks to my lack of knowledge then they would know who gave me that sort of information, leading them to you and those you care about…”

“Still…” the man explains “…I know better than just running into trouble. Even so, I cannot promise you I will not find myself trapped easily if the situation happens”

Bernard bit his bottom lip. THis was an extremelly risky situation. Truly his sense of morals didn’t allow him  to let him go without knowing what kind of danger he could face in this city… But he couldn’t reveal him the deep secrets he had got with his hacker skills. Still, there was another way. He could show Togusa the small exhibition he had been working on recently, a place showing all the information that every ordinary citizen knew about the DS.

“Well. I believe I can share with you some information… some information everybody knows, so I won’t get in trouble if you know it. Follow me. It’s the newest exhibition from the Villain wing.”

The man nods giving the younger man a light smile. So, he had understood his point…that was some sort of a deception for him, though, since that going back on his words meant that the offer had not been part of plan. Had it been, then Bernard would have insisted in sharing the information…but now he had wasted an opportunity that would most likely, not repeat itself.

“Sure, thank you. I would not want to drag you or the ones you care about into trouble just because I don’t know my way around, Mr. Jones. And I would enjoy very much watching the exhibition…it may be little information but it will still be useful when the time comes”

“I’ll try to help you with all I can. There’s… a few things people usually doesn’t notice watching the news, but they’re there. Little details everybody should know but not everyone notices…” he said calmly, guiding Togusa to the elevator of the Villaing wing.

“For example, Puzzler.” Bernard bit his bottom lip, thinking how the ex-villainm had become part of his family. He never would understand how Grace had fallen in love with him.

“The Puzzler from our universe used to be a villain, but he left that role because my sister… she ‘saved’ him, somehow. The guy was a villain until Grace arrived to his life. Apparently they fell in love, and he decided to switch sides for her. It wasn’t a big loss for the Doom Syndicate… He can create things turning parts of his body into puzzle pieces, and using an special gun he got on his villain days, he can turn people into puzzles as well. Thank God, he isn’t dangerous now. But I’ve heard about a second Puzzler in the city. I still have to investigate if that’s true or not, but… if you see a guy in red and black supersuit with yellow eyes and he isn’t friendly, be careful, because you have would see the second. The first I mentioned, though… Well, I didn’t trust him at first, but he’s a good man.” Bernard’s smile became softer. “No wonder why Grace is going to marry him this summer. They really deserve each other.”

The lift stopped and opened its doors, revealing a nice exhibition with figures, paintings, charts and photos about the Doom Syndicate. Many of those images came from TV and others from Internet. There were sections for every villain, though four of them were especially well-built: Psycho Delic the First, Lady Doppler, Hot Flash and The Puzzler. It was obvious the exhibition was still under construction, given how there were sections for the villains known as Destruction Worker, Eriu, Pandora and Mimerator still unfinished.

“I am glad” the man replies as he lowers his gaze and stares as his wristwatch, it had stopped. Of course, if was nothing more than expected, since the moment in which he had gone through the portal his artifacts seemed to have stopped working properly.

In a way, it was a miracle that his cyberbrain had not been affected in that particular moment…But that only helped his conspirancy theory in which that place was not real but only an illusion created by a hacker, after all, he had dissapeared in the middle of a mission, and even the best of Section 9 had been hacked before. It was still a latent possibility, but he had decided to play along as of now.

His thoughts are interrupted by Bernard’s whispers…sure, he had told him about his knockledge on heroes and villains…but this was quite surprising. Would he really give an unknown man such information just because?

“Doom Syndicate?” it sounds like a comic book league “I understand, Mr. Jones; And I would really appreaciate your help with that, but I cannot promise you that I will be able to keep all the information safe.”

It could be leaked, if he was really hacked… “I will try my best to protect it, though.”

“Of course I do” he replies with the same smile, albeit quite forced for the situations, but the intention had been the same. The man was pretty much powerless as of now, and the less he could do was to thank the young man for his care.

Behind that quite sarcastic and somehow dry exterior, he could notice a little, optimistic smile forming on Bernard’s lips. Perhaps he had finally choosed two right words, that somehow meant something for the other? With a nod, he turns around and directs his gaze to the same place the younger man is watching.

The watery portal was still there…so still, as if taunting both of them. How many people had passed through that place, how many had returned home, and even more importantly…how did this particular thing worked? Was is sentient, able to choose people, or were people choosen by destiny?. Togusa sighs, then runs a hand through his hair as he returns his gaze to Bernard’s direction.

“I hope so…again, thank you for everything. As for the later question, I would really like to know more about this place, perhaps having a look around the museum could help with that. That is, if you don’t mind showing me around”

“Sure man, I don’t mind. You’re the last visitor we have today, after all.” he replied kindly, joining his hands, a little, polite smile.

“What would you like to watch first? We have two different areas: the hero side, and the villain side. Both Zones have things about Megamind, and the blue People in general, while the hero side is more focused on Metro Man and his legacy. We also have a screening room called the MegaCinema, where the tourists can watch a documental about Megamind’`s life. The movie is a little long… You might prefer go back to the Hall, where we have some Metro city maps. I can give you one if you want, they’re free.”

“First things first” he tought. Bernard had already gave him advice about some of the villains around that place, but there was not such thing as being careful enough when in a foreign new place…especially such as this. Even if the man’s somehow naive sense of curiosity begged him to go visit the hero side, his paranoid side kept him from doing so.

“Are 30 minutes enough to visit the villain side?” he wonders out loud with a slight nod “It would be convenient if it was, and there is not enough time you could always…do you have digital archives of everything that is shown in the exhibitions, Mr. Jones? I could also used that”

Perhaps it was not the most usual way to ask for it, but at least he was not telling him everything…as accustomed as Bernard could be to strange things, Togusa still had his reserves about telling him of his cyberbrain and other particular traits.

“I…” Bernard bit his bottom lip, narrowing his eyes. “·0 minutes are more than enough to visit both sides, Togusa. But if you’re interested into learning more about villains…”
